My collection of lexical resources for language learning

This is a list of lexical resources which I have found useful for learning languages, and one that I seek to augment when new resources cross my path. All of them are online and free of cost to access as of publication.

My language profile (in order of first contact):

LanguageDescription
MandarinNative language, in a steady state of decline since moving to Australia at age 10; I take no particular interest
EnglishBest language
GermanFrozen at C1 level — no time until at least November due to school commitments
ArabicVery elementary knowledge, also frozen due to school
FrenchTaking as a school subject since last year; no idea about CEFR, but enough to read newspaper articles

Dictionaries

Conjugation and other inflections

  • (French) Le Conjugueur
Quite bloated with ads, though their paid mobile version is very swift
  • (French) Wiktionary
  • (German) Wiktionary
No dedicated search interface for inflections. Inflection information is embedded within dictionary entries.
  • (German) Netzverb: essentially a front-end for Wiktionary, with it being the data source

Thesauri

Miscellaneous

These are some quite unique tools which complement specific workflows.

  • (Multilingual) Wortschatz Leipzig: vast collection of word corpora for a massive number of languages
Useful for my personal case of determining whether a term warrants being added to my Anki flashcards, given a frequency.
  • (English) English-Corpora.org
Previously restricted to university personnel, now open to public registration.
